Markforge released performance indicators of composite 3D printing materials such as carbon fiber
2018-04-12 10:10:18 visits:465
As the earliest carbon fiber 3D printer in the world, markOne can print not only carbon fiber, but also aramid, glass fiber and nylon formulas. Its maximum 3D print size is 320 × one hundred and thirty-two × 160 mm. The device has two nozzles. One prints fiber materials and the other prints ordinary plastic materials.
The finished parts printed by markOne are similar to those printed by ordinary FFF technology, but there will be strands of fibers running through them. In fact, only one or two layers of this part are carbon fiber or glass fiber, but the hardness of the part is very high. Recently, mark forge, the manufacturer of markone3d printer, announced that they have set formal benchmark indicators for the strength of these (carbon fiber) components and materials.
Jeff Klein, creative director of markforge, said that after months of rigorous testing, markforge has released the final technical specifications of the company's printing materials for molten wire manufacturing and continuous wire manufacturing (click to browse).
The company initially thought that the strength of their carbon fiber CFF material was 5 times higher than ABS and the hardness was 20 times higher than ABS. However, Klein said that the final test from the third-party test showed that their carbon fiber 3D printing parts were 30 times stronger and 30 times harder than the parts of the same shape printed with ABS material.
The test results and reports include the test data of carbon fiber, aramid, glass fiber and nylon formula materials. The test subjects include tensile, bending, compression and thermal deformation temperature tests.
According to Klein, carbon fiber material has the highest strength to weight ratio and the highest thermal conductivity, which makes it very suitable for applications with high stiffness and strength requirements.
He added that the material of glass fiber formula is the most cost-effective. Although its strength is similar to that of carbon fiber, its hardness is only 40% of that of the latter, and for parts of the same volume, glass fiber is twice as heavy as carbon fiber.
Mark forged said the aramid formula has the best wear resistance, which is the company's most flexible material. This material is best suited for printing components that require maximum durability and impact resistance.
The company said that the markOne composite 3D printer can print a variety of fiber reinforcement modes to create anisotropic and quasi isotropic layer structures. The data sheet provides the reference material properties of ASTM compliant plates printed by a markOne manufacturing grade equipment.
Klein said that the final component and material properties vary greatly due to differences in layer design, part design and end use conditions. However, he added that the data listed should not be used as a limiting condition for the development of design, quality control or technical specifications.
